Questions practitioners ask
Plain answers, including the ones that start with 'not today'.
Questions practitioners ask
Does Account file returns to HMRC?
Not today. Account is being built to file to HMRC under Making Tax Digital. Filing is not switched on yet. What exists has been tested against simulated HMRC responses.
What happens if something is missing from a return?
Filing fails safe. If something is missing, Account stops and names what, rather than guessing, and nothing is sent.
Is it ready for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
Account is built to prepare each client's quarterly updates from the ledger, for the client to approve and a person to review. MTD ITSA filing from the 2027-28 tax year; prepare and export 2026-27 figures today.
Does Account make my practice AML compliant?
No. It screens clients against the official UK sanctions list and records a risk score on file. Your practice remains the supervised party.
Does Account screen for politically exposed persons?
Not today. That and adverse-media screening need a licensed data feed that is not connected, so Account does not claim them.
Is it tax advice?
No. Account computes and cites. The judgement stays with you.
What happens when a question cannot be answered from the sources?
Account says 'I don't have a reliable, cited answer for that.' and stops.
Does Account read my clients' documents automatically?
Reading a document for supplier, date, amount and VAT is built. Until it is switched on, every document goes to a person to key, and nothing is invented either way.
Does it replace my clients' bookkeeping software?
No. Account is practice software, not a package for a client's day-to-day books. Bank lines are matched for each client and each VAT return keeps its sources; if a client keeps their own books elsewhere, the practice still runs its side in Account.
Can I bring my clients over?
Yes: from a spreadsheet, or from an export of five kinds of practice software (Xero contacts, IRIS Elements, Digita, TaxCalc Practice Manager and Xero Practice Manager), after a dry run. Notes and time records are not imported. Other importers are in development. Xero, IRIS Elements, Digita and TaxCalc are trade marks of their respective owners. Account imports from their export files and is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.
Can my clients use a portal?
Yes. A client is invited by email, signs in with a password or an emailed link, and can upload documents, approve returns and sign declarations and engagement letters.
Where will my clients' data be held?
Account will hold tax records and client data. It is held in the UK (London). Its retention and deletion commitments will be published before it takes any customer data.
How much does it cost?
One subscription in place of several. Prices are not yet published.
Is there a free trial?
No. Early access is by invitation.
How do I get access?
