The cookie policy in full

1. The short version

This site sets two cookies. Every one of them is strictly necessary for it to work and to stay secure. We set no analytics cookies, no advertising or marketing cookies, and no third-party cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.

Clause 4 lists them by name. Because none of them is optional, there is no consent for us to ask for and no cookie banner on this site, clause 3 explains why that is the honest position rather than a shortcut. You can still control cookies through your browser at any time (clause 6).

2. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They allow a site to remember your preferences and to keep a session secure. Some cookies are strictly necessary, the site cannot work properly without them. Others are optional, and are used for things like analytics or advertising. This site currently sets only the strictly necessary kind.

3. Why we do not ask you to accept cookies

There is no cookie banner on this site. The law that governs cookies in the UK, regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, requires your consent before a site stores anything on your device, but it exempts storage that is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for. Both cookies in clause 4 fall inside that exemption, and we set nothing outside it.

So there was never a choice for us to offer. This site used to show a consent banner with Accept all and Reject non-essential buttons. Neither button changed what was stored on your device, because there were no optional cookies either way, it asked a question whose answer could not matter, and recorded that answer in a third cookie which existed only to stop the banner asking again. We have removed it. A notice in the footer of every page now states the position and links here.

If that ever changes, the banner comes back before the cookie does. Should we introduce analytics, marketing or any other non-essential cookie, regulation 6 applies in full: we would have to obtain your consent before setting it, and we would update this policy first. A line in the footer is a statement, not consent, and we will not treat it as one.

4. The cookies this site sets

These are all of them.

Every cookie avantiaccount.com setsAll are strictly necessary. None is used for marketing, profiling or tracking, and none is set by a third party.

avanti_account_sessionWhat it doesSet by our application server. Keeps your browsing session together across page requests so that forms and security checks work. It is HttpOnly (not readable by JavaScript), Secure, and SameSite=Lax. Strictly necessary: without it a form cannot be submitted. How long it lastsTwo hours of inactivity, or when you close your browser
XSRF-TOKENWhat it doesA cross-site request forgery token. Proves that a form submission came from this site and not from an attacker's page. It is Secure and SameSite=Lax, and it is deliberately readable by JavaScript because the page must return it with each submission. Strictly necessary for the same reason. How long it lastsWith your session

None of these two is used for marketing, profiling or tracking. None of them is set by a third party. If that changes, this clause changes first.

5. Cookies we do not set

We currently set no analytics cookies, no marketing or advertising cookies and no third-party cookies. We do not use an analytics provider on this website, and no advertising or social-media tag is embedded in these pages.

We have also not built per-category controls, because there are no optional categories to control. We would rather say that than show you a preferences panel that does nothing.

6. Controlling cookies yourself

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies, either for all sites or for this one. Blocking the strictly necessary cookies listed in clause 4 will stop parts of the site working, forms will fail their security check.

One cookie we used to set may still be on your device. Until recently this site showed a consent banner, which stored your answer in a cookie named cookie_consent lasting one year, and a matching entry in your browser's local storage. We no longer set it, and nothing on this site reads it, it is inert, and it will expire on its own. If you would rather remove it now, clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser will do so.

Your light or dark choice. If you choose Light or Dark in the appearance control, the site remembers that choice in your browser's local storage, under the name appearance. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to us, and choosing System removes it.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we add or remove a cookie. When we do, we will update the effective date shown at the top of this page. If a change introduces optional cookies, we will build a consent mechanism and obtain your consent before setting any, and this policy will say so before it happens, not after.
