What switching involves
Bring your clients across from a spreadsheet or from an export of the software you use now, with a dry run before anything is created.
What switching involves
Moving a practice is work, and we would rather tell you exactly what exists than imply a button that does not.
Your client list, from a spreadsheet
Bring your client list in from a spreadsheet laid out in Account's template, where only the client name is required: preview what will be created and what needs fixing, and run it again safely if you need to.
| Template column | fills | Client record |
|---|---|---|
| name | Client name (required) | |
| entity_type | Sole trader, company, partnership... | |
Exports from other practice software
Account reads client exports from five kinds of practice and bookkeeping software, and, from one of them, job history. Choose the source, upload the file, and run a dry run: every row is shown as would create, would update or skipped, with its reason, and nothing is written but the report.
When you confirm, clients are created first, then jobs. Run the same files again and Account updates what it imported before instead of duplicating it. A row that cannot be placed is skipped with a reason, never guessed. The report downloads as a spreadsheet.
| Row | Result | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Quillon Joinery Ltd | ResultWould create | ReasonA new client. |
| Marsh Timber Supplies | ResultWould update | ReasonImported before, so updated and not duplicated. |
| Row 14 | ResultSkipped | ReasonCould not be placed, so skipped and never guessed. |
Illustrative: fictional client, figures and data.
- Dry run
- Every row reported before anything is created.
- Safe to run again
- A second run updates; it does not duplicate.
- Report
- A downloadable record of what was created, updated and skipped.
What does not move
Notes and time records are not imported. Each file reads up to 500 rows, so a larger practice imports in more than one file.
Other importers are in development. We will name each one here when it works, and not before.
The move, in order
1. Clients
Your client list, mapped and previewed.
2. Companies
Company details and officers looked up from Companies House.
3. Work
Jobs and statutory deadlines set up from workflow templates.
4. Books
Bank statements imported and reconciled.
5. Team
Your people invited, each with a role.
6. Clients' portal
Client contacts invited when you are ready.
Where Account stands
